At least 40 suspected militants were killed Saturday in Pakistan's troubled north-western tribal region in a government response to killing of 11 soldiers by the insurgents, DPA reported.
Around 150 militants attacked five security posts in Mohmand tribal district on Friday, leaving 11 soldiers and 24 rebels dead.
Military helicopters pounded insurgent positions Saturday.
"So far 40 militants have been killed by our forces," said Amjad Ali, the senior civilian administrator of the district. "The operation is still going on."
The army said it had killed 64 insurgents in the last two days.
