Visiting Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi described as "ridiculous" Wednesday the court challenge he was facing at home over a law that effectively grants him immunity from prosecution, DPA reported.
"I am totally indifferent. Its verdict will not have any effect on the government," he said. "I find it risible. I swear on the heads of my children and my grandchildren that I have not done anything wrong."
He said he had briefed Chancellor Angela Merkel in talks at her office on the "pathology" that led his opponents to challenge him this way.
The country's highest court was hearing in Rome arguments that the law, which allows the prime minister to ignore court summonses, was unconstitutional.
