China offered assistance to Japan Saturday after the magnitude-8.9 earthquake that unleashed devastating tsunamis and left an estimated 1,000 people dead, officials said, dpa reported.
Chinese rescue teams were ready to go to Japan with equipment and medicines to join in relief work, said Chen Jianmin, director of the China Earthquake Administration, the Xinhua news agency reported late Friday.
The Beijing Red Cross had also offered to help, the report said.
