A suicide bomber targeted Afghan Defense Ministry on Monday leaving two persons dead and injuring seven others, Defense Ministry spokesman Zahir Azimi asserted.

A suicide bomber targeted Afghan Defense Ministry on Monday leaving two persons dead and injuring seven others, Defense Ministry spokesman Zahir Azimi asserted, Xinhua reported.

"The suicide bomber opened fire killing two soldiers and injured seven others," Azimi told section of local media.

However, he noted the bomber before blowing himself up was shot dead by security guards inside the compound.

He also stated that the situation is under control.

Meantime, an official with defense ministry on the condition of anonymity told Xinhua that two suicide bombers entered the compound of defense ministry but both were killed immediately.

On the other hand, Defense Ministry spokesman Zahir Azimi told Xinhua told that "details would be released to media"after investigation.

Another official with defense ministry also said on the condition of anonymity that the bomber wearing in Afghan army uniform targeted the defense ministry, injuring several persons.

The attack happened at around noon time prompting security personnel to cordon off the area and prevent journalists from entering inside the defense ministry compound.

This is the third time that anti-government militants launching attack on security forces in uniform.

In the previous attacks carried out in police and army uniforms couple of days ago, the police chief of Kandahar province and nine soldiers including five NATO soldiers were killed.

Security measures have been tightened following the attack around the Afghan Presidential Palace where is located near the Defense Ministry.
