As many as 20 runners from several countries started their races in volcano areas in East Java of Indonesia on Saturday, a media reported here.

As many as 20 runners from several countries started their races in volcano areas in East Java of Indonesia on Saturday, a media reported here, Xinhua reported.

The Les Volcans de l'Extreme race is scheduled to be held in Mount Lamongan area in Lumajang of East Java on Saturday, the Jakarta Post said.

The other volcano areas on the list are Mount Bromo, Mount Semeru, Mount Kawah Ijen and Moun Raung, all in East Java, according to Thierry Robinet from a travel agency offering Indonesian volcano tours.

Robinet, based in Bali, said participants of the "extreme" race came from France, South Africa, Switzerland, Nepal and Belgium.

Les Volcans de l'Extreme is organized by former Nepalese winter Olympian Dachiri Dawa Sherpa, who is based in Europe.
