Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi was set Monday to host his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu for talks on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, DPA reported.

Netanyahu was expected to lobby Italy's centre-right government against a Palestinian plan to seek United Nations recognition of their state in September.

The Italian and Israeli premiers were scheduled to hold a joint news conference in Rome at around 1100 GMT.

Berlusconi and Netanyahu, who was being accompanied by six Israeli cabinet ministers, also planned to sign several bilateral agreements involving their two nations.
