The principal of a primary school in Vietnam's Mekong Delta was arrested for allegedly killing a teacher who made fun of his ability to do maths, police said Monday, DPA reported.

Headmaster Nguyen Thanh An, 36, was accused of stabbing Tran Viet Trieu in the neck during a drunken brawl Friday, said the deputy chief of the district police, Mai Van Phong.

According to a witness who was also stabbed, the fight began after Trieu accused his boss of being bad at maths.

An fled the scene and hid in bushes near his home before he was apprehended by police, the Thanh Nien newspaper reported.

The witness was being treated in hospital for neck wounds.

A murder investigation was still under way.
