At least 10 people were killed in Mexico after Hurricane Jova caused more damage in the centre of the country than initially forecast, officials said late Friday.
Eight towns in the centre of the country were declared natural disaster zones due to flooding and infrastructural damage, the Secretariat for Social Development said, dpa reported.
The status allows the worst-affected communities to access emergency funds.
The navy was evacuating thousands of stranded people and delivering emergency supplies to emergency shelters.
