WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange can be extradited to Sweden in connection with sexual allegations brought by two women, the High Court in London ruled following an appeal hearing Wednesday, DPA reported.

The 40-year-old Australian could be handed over to the Swedish prosecuting authorities within two weeks if he does not lodge a further appeal against the decision.

Assange, who denies the allegations, had argued that he would not receive a "fair trial" in Sweden and that his extradition was "politically motivated."

His lawyers said the WikiLeaks founder feared that he would ultimately be handed over to the US authorities. WikiLeaks caused an international storm last year with the publication of hundreds of thousands of confidential US State Department cables.

Assange was arrested in London in December 2010, on a European arrest warrant issued by Sweden. A lower court granted his extradition earlier this year, but Assange lodged an appeal, which he has now lost.

He has been living under strict bail conditions in Britain since his arrest.
