Afghan President Hamid Karzai asked tribal elders on Wednesday to advise the government what it should do about the peace process, DPA reported.
"In light of your consultations, we will take the necessary steps regarding peace talks with the Taliban," Karzai told 2,000 tribal elders who are in the capital to talk about a partnership pact with the United States and possible peace negotiations.
Karzai asked the leaders "to discuss the consequences for peace efforts after the killing of ex-president Burhanuddin Rabbani," who headed a council that sought negotiations with the Taliban before he was killed in a suicide attack in September.
