A bomb ripped through a railway station in Pakistan's eastern city of Lahore on Tuesday, killing at least two people and injuring 38 others, rescue officials said, dpa reported.

Railway operations were suspended after the attack. Lahore has one of the busiest railway stations in Pakistan.

Faheen Jehnazeb told dpa by phone that rescue workers found two dead bodies at the scene and transferred some 38 people injured in the blast to hospitals.

Lahore official Nurrul Amin Mengal said the blast was caused by an explosive device planted at the station.

Nobody claimed responsibility for the attack. Taliban militants have targeted both civilians and security forces in the past.

Pakistani forces are fighting militants in the north-west of the country.
