Sergei Martynov of Belarus claimed his country's first Olympic gold medal of London 2012 Friday with victory in the men's shooting 50-metre rifle prone event at the Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich.

Sergei Martynov of Belarus claimed his country's first Olympic gold medal of London 2012 Friday with victory in the men's shooting 50-metre rifle prone event at the Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich, DPA reported.

Two-time world champion Martinov finished with a total of 705.5 points. Lionel Cox of Belgium took silver with 701.2 points while Slovenia's Rajmond Debevec claimed bronze with 701.0 points.

The shooting continues Friday with the final of the men's 25m rapid rapid fire pistol event.
