Ann Romney uninjured when plane makes emergency landing

A jet carrying Ann Romney, wife of US presidential candidate Mitt Romney, made an emergency landing in Colorado Friday after smoke filled the cabin, a spokeswoman for the campaign said, DPA reported.

The smoke apparently was caused by an electrical fire. Ann Romney was not harmed in the incident, spokeswoman Sarah Haley confirmed to ABC news.

The flight was en route to Los Angeles from Omaha, Nebraska, where Ann Romney had attended fundraisers. Haley said the plane was surrounded by fire trucks when it landed.

A Secret Service official confirmed the incident to CNN.

"We can confirm that a plane carrying Mrs. Romney and two Secret Service personnel did make an emergency landing about 4:25 pm (2025 GMT). It was at the Denver airport," the offcial said. "Basically, what we understand, there was some type of smoke in the cabin. All personnel were safe."

The official could not say who else was on board. Campaign spokesman Rick Gorka told CNN that Romney spoke with his wife on the phone after the incident.
