Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has ruled out the possibility of sending Collective Security Treaty peacekeepers to Afghanistan after the withdrawal of the International Security Assistance Force in 2014.

"This information is not true. Such an opportunity isn't discussed, and excluded in principle," Lavrov told journalists, commenting on a number of media reports about the possibility of sending CSTO peacekeepers to Afghanistan after 2014.

The minister stressed that all activities of the CSTO, as well as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization aims to provide security and stability in the region, where these organizations exist in their area of responsibility.

International Security Assistance Force should be withdrawn from Afghanistan by the end of 2014. About 1.3 thousand military bases, including the advanced operating bases will be owned by the Afghan security forces after the withdrawal of the foreign forces. The control over the security in the country will also be carried out by the Afghans.
