Barack Obama reiterates US commitment to Israel's security
US President Barack Obama has commended Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu for agreeing to the Egyptian ceasefire proposal, DPA reported.
Speaking Wednesday, Obama also expressed his appreciation for Netanyahu's efforts to work with the new Egyptian government to achieve a sustainable ceasefire and a more durable solution to end the conflict.
The US president said in a statement issued by the White House that the United States would use the opportunity offered by a ceasefire to intensify efforts to help Israel address its security needs, especially the issue of smuggled weapons into Gaza.
Obama also said he was committed to seeking additional funding for Iron Dome and other US-Israel missile defense programmes.
