The number of injured in a terrorist attack in the Russian city of Volgograd has increased to 55 including 20 children, RIA Novosti reported on Wednesday with reference to the Russian Ministry of Healthcare.

The number of injured in a terrorist attack in the Russian city of Volgograd has increased to 55 including 20 children, RIA Novosti reported on Wednesday with reference to the Russian Ministry of Healthcare.

Earlier, the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry reported 47 injured.

An explosion occurred on Monday inside a public bus in the Krasnoarmeysky district of Volgograd. Six people and a suicide bomber were killed as a result of the explosion. All the victims were young people. These included four females aged 29, 22, 19 and 17 and two males aged 16 and 17.

"According to the latest reports 55 people including 20 children were injured and six killed as a result of the terrorist act. Some 31 people among the injured were hospitalised including 12 children. Ambulatory care was provided to 24 victims including two children," the message said.

The ministry repeated that the four victims were brought to Moscow and hospitalised at the burn centre of the Vishnevsky Institute of Surgery and the Central Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedics named after N.N. Priorov.

"Currently, patients are in a condition of moderate severity," the press release said.

Health care institutions in Volgograd are looking after 27 of the injured.

"All health care organisations that provide assistance to the injured have been fully provided with blood, plasma and blood substitutes, as well as medicines," the ministry said.
