Armenia will join the Eurasian Economic Union (EAU) of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan on January 1, 2015.

An agreement for this will be signed Oct. 10 in Minsk, Belarus, at a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council.

The expansion of cooperation with Vietnam, Israel, India and Egypt will also be discussed, Russian President's aide Yury Ushakov told reporters, RIA Novosti news agency said Oct. 9.

"Here the matter rests in signing an agreement on Armenia's accession to the EAU, for Armenia to be able to become a full member of the union from Jan. 1, 2015," Ushakov said.

He said the heads of the "troika" (Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan) agreed to secure the synchronization of ratification of the Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union, so that it starts functioning as planned from Jan. 1, 2015.

"On Oct. 3, the treaty was ratified by Russia, today it has been ratified by Kazakhstan, and today we expect that the procedure will take place in Minsk as well," Ushakov said.

He added that the Minsk meeting, to be held Oct. 10, will be attended by the presidents of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan, and it will be the fourth meeting this year.

The Kremlin's representative predicts that the heads of state will agree to hold another summit in Moscow in December.

He explained that some 50 regulations need to be adopted before the Eurasian Economic Union starts functioning.
