Germany's Chancellor Angela Merkel hopes for progress in the talks on the situation in Ukraine, to be held in Berlin on Jan. 21, Trend's special correspondent reported.
Merkel made the remarks in a joint statement for the press following talks with the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.
She said the meeting's purpose is to see if there is progress in preparing for the quadripartite summit in Astana.
Merkel noted that there is no need for another fruitless meeting of the presidents, adding that truce in Ukraine is becoming increasingly fragile.
