The cost of opening and closing ceremonies of the first European Games is estimated at less than 100 million Azerbaijani manats ($95 million), the Russian news agency TASS reported with reference to the Minister of Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan Azad Rahimov.

Earlier, some media outlets with reference to TASS spread information that the cost for the opening and closing ceremonies was about 240 million manats ($229 million).

Rahimov said that an additional sum for the costs of opening and closing ceremonies was not requested from the budget, the costs amounted to less than 100 million manats ($95 million), TASS reported.

The European Games that kicked off in Baku June 12, will last till June 28. There is a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports.

More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe came to Baku to represent their nations over 17 days of competition. Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
