Prior to the SU-24 incident, Russian President Vladimir Putin personally apologized to his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan for violation of Turkey's airspace by Russian aircraft, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in an interview with Italian media, RIA Novosti reported.

Lavrov noted that Russia doesn't see any reason for the SU-24 incident other than Turkey's attempt to undermine the anti-terrorist efforts or disrupt the political process in Syria.

Turkish Air Force jets shot down the Russian SU-24 bomber after it entered Turkish airspace Nov. 24. Relations between Russia and Turkey have deteriorated after the incident.
