Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry held talks over the phone on Wednesday, agreeing to seek to resolve tensions between Saudi Arabia and Iran through dialogue, Kyodo reported.

Kerry also welcomed the recent agreement between Japan and South Korea to resolve the drawn-out dispute over so-called "comfort women," who were forced to work in Japan's wartime military brothels.

Kishida and Kerry also shared their concern about China's test flight to an airfield constructed on one of the artificial islands in the disputed Spratly archipelago, Kishida said.
