Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani have highlighted the importance of joint activities for resolving the Syrian crisis, press-service of Kremlin said.
The remarks were made during a phone conversation between the two presidents on Feb. 24.
The sides stressed the importance of continuing to fight the "Islamic State" (IS, aka ISIS, ISIL or Daesh), Jabhat al-Nusra and other terrorist organizations included in the sanctions list of the UN Security Council, RIA Novosti reported.
Syria has been suffering from an armed conflict since March 2011, which, according to the UN, has so far claimed the lives of over 220,000 people.
Militants from various armed groups are confronting the Syrian government troops.
The "Islamic State" and Jabhat al-Nusra are the most active terrorist groups in Syria.
