Parts of the Old Trafford stadium in the UK city of Manchester was evacuated on Sunday ahead of Manchester United's game against Bournemouth, local media reported.

According to the ITV television channel, there will be a 45-minute delay, while other media outlets report that the match has been canceled altogether.

According to a journalist of The Times Sports newspaper, citing Manchester United, the evacuation was carried out over a suspicious package.

Manchester United Football Club confirmed Sunday that the kickoff of its match against Bournemouth was being delayed over a suspicious package.

"Kick-off is delayed at Old Trafford after a suspect package was found in the North West Quadrant. Police are inspecting, more to follow," the team said on its Twitter account.

Eyewitnesses and journalists claimed on Twitter that Wi-Fi and 3G at the stadium have been switched off over "Code Red" alert.
