(Itar-Tass) - The North Korean ambassador was summoned on Wednesday to the Russian Foreign Ministry for explanations over Pyongyangs missile tests.

It is expected that Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Alexeyev will receive the ambassador, reports Trend.

Russia expresses serious concerns over missile launches in the area of the Sea of Japan and urges North Korea to practice restraint and fulfill its obligations in the missile sphere, ministry spokesman Mikhail Kamynin said.

Such steps seriously aggravate prospects for the settlement of a nuclear problem on the Korean peninsula, the spokesman stressed.

An official statement of the Russian Foreign Ministry says that Russia will take a stand on that issue within the framework of international law and taking into account the task of ensuring regional stability.

This position is brought to the attention of the Korean side in Moscow and in Pyongyang, ministry sources said.

Later on Wednesday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is planning to have telephone conversations with his colleagues on the six-party talks in connection with Wednesday missile launches by North Korea, Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Alexeyev said earlier.

The diplomat said on Wednesday, Russia will also instruct its mission to the United Nations in New York to coordinate actions on that issue with other members of the U.N. Security Council and interested organizations. He confirmed that the U.N. Security Council would gather for a session to focus on North Koreas missile launches.
