(RIA Novosti) - The leader of the Lebanese parliamentary majority is set to arrive in the Russian capital Thursday afternoon for talks on the ongoing conflict in his war-torn country, his Moscow representative said.

George Shaaban said that Saad Hariri, son of ex-Lebanese prime minister Rafik Hariri, would meet with Russia's National Security Council Secretary Igor Ivanov and high-ranking diplomats to discuss the situation in Lebanon, reports Trend.

"He will ask Russia's help in reaching a ceasefire and obtaining support for the Lebanese government's efforts to settle the complicated situation in southern Lebanon," Shaaban said.

More than 900 Lebanese civilians have lost their lives as the fierce battle between the Israeli military and Hizbollah militants in southern Lebanon enters its fourth week.
