Ukraine's President charged the commission on NATO accession to inform society every quarter

(ForUm) - President Viktor Yushchenko instructed chief of the interagency commission for preparing Ukraine's accession to NATO to inform the society about its results by means of media every quarter, Cabinet press office report.

The Ukrainian Head of State has signed a relevant decree, under which the Ukrainian government is in charge of realizing state policy of the country's cooperation with the North-Atlantic Alliance, particularly in meeting membership criteria, reports Trend.

Viktor Yushchenko stated Ukraine's "course for European and Euro-Atlantic integration is irreversible". He added that the target of Ukraine's integration to NATO is still topical. According to him, challenging issues lie not in the strategic sphere, but in the tactical one.

As the President believes, in 2007 European integration should be continued and "political rhetoric aggravation" abandoned. President Yushchenko speaks up for comprehensive informing citizens about NATO through holding roundtables, debates, which would promote new knowledge in foreign policy. According to the President, Ukrainians do not support accession to NATO for lack of their knowledge about this organization.

According to the polls, more than 60 percent of Ukrainians oppose Ukraine's accession into NATO. However, the President believes that Ukraine's membership in NATO and the EU would be a guarantee of sovereignty and security, as well as the state's democratic development.

He spoke up against holding the referendum on NATO.
