(Cihan) - The trade volume between Turkey and Syria this year has reached at $ 1,5 billion, Turkish Foreign Trade Minister Kursat Tuzmen said on Sunday.
"Free trade zone agreement signed between Turkey and Syria will be put into force in January 2007," Tuzmen told reporters at the opening of the first border trade center in southeastern Turkish city of Gaziantep, reports Trend.
Tuzmen added that the foreign investment in the country exceeded $18 billion so far in 2006.
Meanwhile, the volume of trade exchange between the Turkish city of Gaziantep and Syria has increased by 79 % this year.
