(ForUm) - Elections of top human rights official were postponed from January 11 to the beginning of the next session of the parliament, which is to start on February 6. Refat Chubarov, secretary of the VR committee on human rights, national minorities and international relations, told journalists Wednesday.

IN response to the question on causes of postponing, he opined there are two main causes, which supplement each other. First of all, in accordance with the VR regulations biography data of candidatures for the post must be distributed among the VR deputies ten days before voting. However, it has not been done, reports Trend.

The second and more important cause, according to Chubarov, is that Nina Karpachyova вЂ" former ombudsman and principal candidature for the post вЂ" is trying to collect as more as possible votes in her support.

Chubarov added that Karpachyova also tries to get support of not only anti-crisis coalition, but at least a part of opposition deputies.

He noted that ombudsman elections are held by means of secret vote. But taking into account that this is the last week of the VR session, there may be insufficient number of deputies in the parliament.

Taking into consideration all these factors, leaders of the coalition decided to postpone ombudsman elections to the beginning of the next session, Chubarov informed.
