(Euronew) - Ukraine's President has been delt a blow to his authority after the country's deputies voted to curb his powers. Under the new legislation, Viktor Yushchenko is to lose his right to veto key government appointments. The move has been orchestrated by the President's political rivals, led by Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovich.
Yushchenko defeated him in the presidential election after the Orange Revolution, but was forced to appoint Yanukovitch as Prime Minister in August when his own allies failed to form a government.
Since taking power Yanukovich has chipped away at the presidential powers and secured control over key economic sectors.
