Iran’s foreign minister attends two-day Madrid meeting of average income states

(IRNA) - Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki arrived in the Spanish capital, Madrid, Thursday to attend the first international conference of average income countries (March 1-2).

The two-day event is attended by the heads of international and regional bodies, ministers and high-ranking delegations from 80 countries.

The conference aims to analyze the current problems and needs of the average income countries and seek formulas to advance their economic and social standing.

The foreign minister is scheduled to deliver a speech and declare Iran's views on the trend of progress in developing countries.

He is also expected to confer with his Spanish counterpart, Miguel Angel Moratinos, on matters of bilateral concern.

Mottaki, who accompanied President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in his recently concluded tour to Sudan, arrived in Madrid from Khartoum to attend the two-day, closed-door conference.

He is joined by an Iranian delegation which is also participating in the conference.

The conference is being held upon the initiative of the Spanish Foreign Ministry in cooperation with the United Nations Economic and Social Affairs Department.

The European Commission, World Bank and World Trade Organization are among the international organizations participating in the conference.

The conference includes four closed-door sessions and will center on cooperation among average income countries, financial stability, their entry to trade markets as well their economic and social problems.
