Ukraine President meets Polish leader

( ForUm) - Victor Yushchenko met with Polish President Lech Kaczynski for talks on Wednesday, president's press office.

The two leaders spoke about regional and European issues, especially how to develop Ukraine's ties with Poland.

They agreed to hold an energy summit in May. Mr. Kaczynski described the project to extend the Odesa-Brody oil pipeline westwards to the Polish city of Plock as a "key project" for his country. He also supported plans to create a pipeline energy corridor connecting Asia and Europe.

The Ukrainian leader suggested that the two countries jointly formulate a short-term bilateral plan on energy security and cooperation to join the European Union and NATO, and a plan aimed at developing border infrastructure and unifying customs rules.

Speaking about humanitarian cooperation, Mr. Yushchenko and Mr. Kaczynski agreed to open a permanent Ukrainian exhibition at the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp and to continue renewing historic sites in both countries.

The two leaders also discussed Ukraine and Poland's bid to host the Euro 2012.
