( IHA ) - Iraqi ministers held crisis talks in Ankara seeking to avert Turkey's possible cross-border incursion into northern Iraq.

The talks stopped after an hour and a half and it was not immediately known if and when they would resume.

Iraqi Defence Minister Abdel Qader Mohammed Jassim and National Security Minister Shirwan al-Waeli returned to the suburban Police Guest House where they are staying, awaiting word from the Turkish side on what the next step will be.

The two had met Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan and Interior Minister Besir Atalay at the Foreign Ministry on Friday morning.

Some unconfirmed reports stated that Babacan went to General Staff headquarters for consultations.

Turkish officials were unavailable for comment.
