Nine dead in Turkey train derailment

( dpa )- Nine people were killed when a passenger train derailed in western Turkey early on Sunday morning, the Anadolu news agency reported.

The Pamukkale Express travelling between Istanbul and Denizli derailed at around 2 a.m. (0000 GMT) after entering at high speed a curve in the tracks in the district of Kutahya .

The five-wagon train was carrying around 450 passengers, many of them families taking advantage of the school term break. At least 21 people were injured in the derailment.

Rescue workers rushed to the scene of the accident working in winter conditions and temperatures of below minus 10 degrees Celsius.
