Türkiye Materials 7 June 2008 11:39 (UTC +04:00)

Turkish President Abdullah Gul said that there was no conflict between Islam culture and secularism in Turkey, reported World Bulletin.

"Majority of Turkish population is Muslim, but they have been living a modern life by maintaining their traditions," Gul told Japanese NHK TV in Tokyo.

Also, Gul said that the ongoing discussions might affect Turkey's European Union (EU) membership bid slightly not in a wider sense.

Gul said that nobody should fear about Turkey's future, and added that Turkey was going on membership talks with the EU and its target was full membership.
