Azerbaijan, Baku, 9 July/ Trend , corr S. Ilhamgizi/ Aykut Chingiz, the Prosecutor General of Istanbul said that the armed attack on the police officers in front of the US Consulate General is an act of terrorism.
"This is a terrorist attack. The 20-25 year old attackers fired from gun silencers and revolvers," Ihlas news agency quoted Prosecutor as saying.
According to the Prosecutor General, the act of terrorism was committed by four men with three of them being killed right in front of the Consulate and one of them escaping in car.
The fire by the unknown people at the policemen at the visa entrance of the US Consulate General in Istanbul killed three policemen. The police chief of Istanbul Muammer Gular said that two of the attackers are Turkish citizens.
The security measures in all diplomatic missions in Turkey have been intensified.
