Turkish leaders had strongly condemned the Israeli missile attacks on Gaza Strip, saying that the irresponsible move could cause instability in the region, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported Sunday.

"I was deeply saddened by Israel's attack on Gaza Strip, I condemn the attack," Turkish President Abdullah Gul said in a statement issued on Saturday, Xinhua reported.

"It is not only between Israel and Palestine. The incident can cause an instability in the region," he added.

Meanwhile, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Saturday telephoned UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon over Israel's attack on Gaza, urging him to step in for an effective humanitarian aid and immediate halt of the Israeli aggression.

Also on Saturday, Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan had a phone conversation with Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, secretary general of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC), saying that OIC should convene an extraordinary session to discuss developments in the Middle East.
