Turkish President Abdullah Gul on Friday welcomed Iran's decision to open its doors to International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for inspection of Iran's new nuclear facilities, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported.

Speaking at a press conference at the International Esonboga Airport in the Turkish capital of Ankara before departing for Azerbaijan, Gul said that it was impossible to say Iran possessed nuclear weapons without actual inspection and welcomed Iran's decision to open its doors to IAEA officials to clarify suspicions, Xinhua reported.

He said Turkey has been exerting efforts for a peaceful resolution of the problem between the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany and Iran.

Gul underlined that Turkey does not want nuclear weapons in the region.
