Turkish President to host today the tripartite summit of Turkey-Afghanistan-Pakistan in Istanbul

President Hamid Karzai of Afghanistan and President Asif Ali Zardari of Pakistan will be in attendance at the fourth summit of the tripartite meetings process which aims at ensuring a high-level rapprochement between Afghanistan and Pakistan and strengthening cooperation mechanisms.

President Hamid Karzai of Afghanistan and President Asif Ali Zardari of Pakistan will be in attendance at the fourth summit of the tripartite meetings process which aims at ensuring a high-level rapprochement between Afghanistan and Pakistan and strengthening cooperation mechanisms, Anadolu Ajansi reported.

During the summit which turned into a cooperation process including different dimensions such as economy, development, security and inter-parliamentary relations, several projects aiming to contribute to stability, security and prosperity in the region will be discussed.

The first of the summits was held in Ankara on April 1, 2007, the second in Istanbul on December 6, 2008 and the third in Ankara on April 30, 2009. Prior to the summit, Afghan Ambassador in Ankara Masood Khalili said in an interview with the A.A that the summit aimed at creating an atmosphere of reconciliation between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

He said that they appreciated Turkey's efforts to contribute to the efforts to ensure peace in the region.

Meanwhile, President Gul will also host the "Summit of Friendship and Cooperation in the Hearth of Asia" on January 26. Besides the presidents of Afghanistan and Pakistan, high-level officials from the neighboring countries to Afghanistan and representatives of several international organizations will attend the meeting. Khalili highlighted importance of both meetings for regional peace.
