Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan said Turkey is ready to withdraw its troops from Cyprus if stability is established on the island in an interview with Cypriot media, CNN Turk reported.
"Everyone can believe Turkey's sincerity," Erdogan said.
Cyprus has been split since 1974 when Turkey invaded the north in response to a Greek-inspired coup. The undefined status of Cyprus and Turkey's refusal to open air transport with Greek-Cyprus are major impasses in the negotiation process on Turkey's joining the EU. Human rights issues are among other reasons.
