Train in eastern Turkey derailed by suspected terrorists
A train was derailed in eastern Turkey Monday in a suspected terrorist attack, Turkish railway officials said, DPA reported.
The passenger and cargo train was carrying military vehicles and equipment, officials with the Turkish State Railroad Company (TCDD) said.
Eight cars of the train were derailed in the attack, which took place near the city of Erzincan in Turkey's east. No injuries were reported.
Officials said they suspect the train was derailed by explosives placed by members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK). There has been an upsurge of PKK violence in recent months.
The PKK is considered a terrorist group by the United States and the European Union. dpa ys mis Author: Yigal Schleifer
