Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan tested Turkey's first electric car on Saturday, Anadolu Agency reported.
Officials briefed Erdogan about Turkey's first mass production electric car Renault Fluence Z.E. at Prime Ministry residence.
Industry & Trade Minister Nihat Ergun as well as National Defense Minister Vecdi Gonul accompanied Erdogan during his test drive.
Erdogan told reporters about the car that it was a very silent vehicle, and easy to drive, adding that the electric cars would started to be sold in 2011.
The maximum speed of the electric cars is 135 km, and they can be driven for 160 km with a full battery.
These zero-emission cars can be charged with a patch cord in business places and houses. They also can be charged in 30 minutes in rapid charging stations. They have low energy cost and high environment sensitivity.
Electric cars are being produced in Oyak Renault factories in Bursa province. Renault has been operating in Turkey for 40 years. Oyak Renault plant has built 15 different models so far, mostly in mid-size compact cars.
