Turkey's President Abdullah Gul is to pay a state visit to Germany September 18-21, German officials announced Wednesday, DPA reported.
Germany's President Christian Wulff is to take Gul on a visit to his hometown, the western city of Osnabrueck, in an unusual gesture of closeness, repaying a visit by Wulff in October last year to Gul's hometown of Kayseri.
A large community of ethnic Turks lives in Germany. Chancellor Angela Merkel has caused resentment in Turkey with her party's opposition to Turkey joining the European Union, although the German government has not officially rejected the idea. dpa tl jbp bve Author: Thomas Lanig
