The mining industry is not developed enough in Turkey because of the terrorist threat, Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz was quoted by the Bu Gun Daily on Thursday.
"Such regions as Shirnak and Hakkari obtain fields which are rich in non-ferrous metals," Yildiz said. "However, these fields are incapable of exploiting properly because of the terrorist threat."
He stressed that the active development of the fields will start as soon as Turkey puts an end to the terrorism.
The actions of militants in Turkey's mountainous regions hinder exploiting the fields of non-ferrous metals located there.
Turkey has recently initiated a major ground counter-terrorist operation.
