Turkish PM: Syrian leadership did not keep promises

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Saturday that his government did not take any step that may have hurt the atmosphere of stability and confidence in the past 9 years, World Bulletin quoted Anadolu Agency as reporting.

Erdogan also said that Turkey had no intention to interfere in the domestic issues of countries.

Speaking at the "World Turkish Entrepreneurs Congress" organized by the Foreign Economic Relations Board at the Lutfi Kirdar Congress and Exhibition Center in Istanbul, Erdogan said that, unlike certain countries who only care about oil wells, Turkey was concerned about the bloodshed and tears in Baghdad, Jerusalem, Gaza, Benghazi, Tripoli and Sirte.

"For the past 9 years, we have told the international community that Syria should not be alienated. At the same time, we received promises from the Syrian administration for reforms. During this 9 year period, Turkish-Syrian friendship contributed to Syria and the Syrian people. Unfortunately, the Syrian administration did not keep the promises made", Erdogan said.

"We wish, as Turkey, for Syria to reach domestic tranquillity for the sake of regional peace and stability", Erdogan said.

Erdogan said Saturday that Turkey's population, experiences and economic strength had to be reflected more on European politics.

He said that Turkey had to be more influential in European politics.

We need to fight against xenophobia and racism as a single heart, Erdogan said.

"As a government making reforms and trying to harmonize Turkey with the EU acquis, we expect our entrepreneurs (in Europe) to extend support to this process in the countries that they live in. Our entrepreneurs should have no concerns about integration. Make efforts to help our citizens integrate with the societies that they live in. However, never make concessions from your brotherhood", Erdogan also said.

No step taken to hurt stability

Erdogan said that his government did not take any step that may have hurt the atmosphere of stability and confidence in the past 9 years.

He said that, as the Justice and Development (AK) Party government, they believed in the intelligence and entrepreneurship of the Turkish individuals.

"Between 2003 and 2010, the Turkish economy on the average grew 5 percent annually. We open the path for the private sector and encourage and support it. Our private sector continues to grow with confidence", Erdogan said.

He also said Saturday that every country affected by the global crisis should study Turkey's experiences.

Erdogan said that Turkey would continue to take the necessary measures and implement them.

"We will never make concessions from monetary and fiscal policies. We will never take a step that would cause concern for the private and financial sector. We have managed the crisis of 2008 well. Despite fluctuations in Europe, we will manage the crisis well and continue to be a factor of stability in our region", Erdogan also said.

Summit

The "World Turkish Entrepreneurs Congress", with the participation of 2,200 entrepreneurs from 90 countries, is promising for Turkey and other countries, Erdogan said.

"When you return back to your countries in which you live, please convey my and the Turkish nation's regards to the peoples there. Please tell your friends that Turkey will always be a friend with its strong economy, active foreign policy, defense of rights and laws, and love for humanity. Do tell about our efforts to facilitate co-existence with the global civilizations under the 'Alliance of Civilizations' project. I wish you all success", Erdogan also said.
