The Turkish authorities have decided to temporarily close the country's embassy in Damascus, the Zaman newspaper reported on Monday.

The entire embassy staff left Syria temporarily.

Meanwhile, the number of Syrian refugees crossing Turkish border increased up to 17,000 people.

Turkey also continues construction of additional camps for arriving refugees.

Anti-government protests which began in mid-March have persisted in Syria for almost a year. Daily reports are being received about the deaths of people, both civilians and the security forces.

According to UN statistics, the total number of victims in the country exceeds 8,000 people.

The Syrian authorities accuse armed militants of the clashes saying they receive assistance from neighboring countries.
