The consumer price index (CPI) in Turkey increased by nine percent in July 2012 compared to the same month in 2011, the Institute of Statistics of Turkey said on Friday.

Inflation amounted to 0.23 percent in July compared to the previous month.

The greatest increase in consumer prices was observed in the field of education - 1.09 percent in July compared to the previous month.

CPI growth was observed in the sector of alcoholic beverages and tobacco - 18.69 percent, other areas of service - 13.76 percent, housing - 11.68 percent, in the field of food and nonalcoholic beverages - 9.37 percent in July compared to the same month last year.
