Following the capture of nine spies working for Iran, the Turkish secret service found out that Iran sent another 100 well-trained spies to Turkey from March 2012, newspaper Zaman reported on Saturday.

It is reported that spies penetrated into Turkey under the guise of journalists and embassy staff. The spies established contacts with members of the terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party, and collected information on military installations and Syrian refugees. They led activities mainly in the eastern and south-eastern provinces.

Nine people suspected of spying for Iran were detained in the Turkish province of Igdir. Two Iranian citizens Mohammed Reza Esmaeılpour and Shahram Zargham, who are charged with the transmission of information about the members of the Syrian opposition in Turkish territory, were detained during a special operation.

Surveillance over detainees was conducted during the year. It was found that they took pictures and shot videos of the police buildings and military facilities. The information collected was transmitted to Iranian intelligence services.

Eight Turkish citizens were detained together with Iranian citizens. A criminal case was filed.
