Turkey says UNSC resolution overdue but positive move

Turkey has welcomed the UN Security Council's (UNSC) resolution regarding the humanitarian situation in Syria, saying it is long overdue but a positive development, Anadolu Agency reported.

In a written statement, the foreign ministry said the binding resolution of the UN Security Council should be urgently implemented, and the Syrian government must immediately give up its siege policy and heavy weapons attacks against civilians.

The ministry stressed that appropriate security conditions need to be immediately prepared by the United Nations and the relevant humanitarian institutions must be allowed to perform their activities independently and swiftly as the situation in the country is gradually deteriorating.

The statement also said if the Syrian government fails to implement or ignore the Security Council's resolution, appropriate measures must be taken within the framework of article 17 of the agreement.
