By Nana Kirtzkhalia - Trend:

Turkish ambassador to Georgia Levent Gumrukcu commented on the information disseminated by the Abkhaz media outlets that Turkey opened a polling station in connection with the "elections" in Sukhumi.

Turkish diplomat sent a special letter to Trend news agency, in which he stated the position of his country's government.

"Turkey has always supported the territorial integrity of Georgia," according to the letter. "The Turkish government intends to maintain the sovereignty of neighboring Georgia in the future. The Turkish government does not recognize the upcoming so-called presidential election in Abkhazia, as this is contrary to all norms of international law and the laws of Georgia. Taking this into account, the Turkish authorities must not give official permission for opening polling stations or installing the ballot boxes. Turkey hopes that the problem of Abkhazia will be solved in a peaceful way in the near future. Moreover, the Turkish government is ready to exert efforts to resolve this problem."
