Turkey needs a democratic constitution, the country's Justice Minister, Bekir Bozdag said, Turkish TRT Haber TV channel reported Sept. 18.

Bozdag said that despite the changes in over 100 paragraphs of Turkey's current constitution, the government was not able to make it more democratic.

He believes that modern Turkey needs a new constitution.

Earlier it was reported that following the Turkish presidential election held Aug. 14, the former foreign minister and current prime minister of Turkey, Ahmet Davutoglu said a new constitution is needed for Turkey's democratization.

Davutoglu said the new government's aim will be preparing a democratic constitution.

The work on the new constitution has been going on for over a year. Due to the opposition's protests its final version, which could have been put to a referendum, is not ready yet.
